Vehicle Extrication

Another service provided by TDFD is Vehicle Extrication. Because the majority of the district lies on the U.S. 50 corridor, Spooner Summit, and Kinsbury Grade, the need for a fast, safe way to remove victims of vehicle collisions is a primary responsibility.  Our staff continuously trains in new and time proven techniques of extrication using the "Jaws of life", hydraulic cutter/shears, hydraulic rams, air (lifting) bags and other devices.  The idea of vehicle extrication is not to remove the patient from the car, but rather, to remove the car from around  the patient.

Tahoe Douglas Fire District utilizes a Rescue/Pumber equipped with all extrication equipment.  This unit responds to all vehicle accidents and rescue calls involving a possible need to utilize tools found on this unit.  Our Glenbrook Engine 5 and Kingsbury Engine 1 also have the capability of hydraulic tools for rescue and extrication.
